Ecological Data Analysis using R (DR103)
This is a training course for Ecological Data Analysis using . Ecological Data analysis can be very complicated, as you may be dealing with many species. R makes an ideal tool for ecological data analysis, as it is both powerful and flexible, being used by many ecologists globally. R has many extensions, with specialist tools for ecology and environmental science.
In this training course Ecological Data Analysis using R (DR103) you will learn how to use R for a range of topics in ecological data analysis. Using ecological examples, you will learn some of the basics as well as more advanced topics, such as multivariate analysis (ordination).
The Ecological Data Analysis using R training course is designed to give you a foundation to using R, as well as giving you a range of skills needed to analyse and explore ecological data.
Ecological Data Course Overview
Ecological Data Analysis using R
Who should attend
Ecologists and Environmental Scientists who are interested in using R for their data analyses.
What you will learn/course outline
This Ecological Data Course covers a range of topics, including:
- Introduction to R.
- Importing data.
- Working with data objects.
- Summary statistics.
- Basic Hypothesis testing.
- Tests for differences.
- Tests for correlation.
- Tests of association.
- Data visualisation.
- Basic chart types.
- Adding to charts (text, titles, legends)
- Regression and ANOVA.
- ANOVA and post-hoc testing.
- Linear regression modelling.
- Community analyses.
- Diversity.
- Hierarchical cluster analysis.
- Ordination (e.g. PCoA, NMDS).
Prerequisites
No prior knowledge of R is needed or assumed. You don’t need any knowledge of statistics or previous experience of data analysis. It is assumed that you know some ecological basics.
What to bring
You’ll simply need a computer and the R program. A spreadsheet is also helpful, but not essential. Online courses are delivered using the software, which is available for Windows or Macintosh computers. Support material is supplied online, usually via Google Classroom.
You can get R from the . We also recommend using , which is a useful “wrapper” for R. RStudio is very useful and has many additional features that help “drive” R.
How Long does the Ecological Data Analysis Course Last?
The duration of this training course on Ecological Data Analysis is three days (starting at 9.30am and ending around 4.30pm).
Since COVID-19 online courses have been more popular. All our data training courses are available online, which means we can be flexible about dates. We can also arrange training at our main training centre in London, or at your workplace. At the moment there are no set dates for courses but you can to see details of forthcoming events.
Our main training centre is at 107, Cheapside, London EC2V 6DN. This is right in the heart of London and is close to Bank and St. Paul’s underground stations.
Related Courses
The Ecological Data Analysis using R course (DR103) is designed as a foundation course in Data Science, statistical data analysis, and in the use of the powerful Open Source program R. If you are not an ecologist then other courses you might be interested in include:
